Thornmark’s Business Advisory Committee (BAC) advises Thornmark on its strategies and services as they affect the outlook for the company. The BAC members, experienced in leading financial and non-financial businesses alike, advise Thornmark in its efforts to realize the vision of the company.
John Cook
John Cook was President and Chief Operating Officer of MaRS Discovery District where he led corporate development and strategy from 2001 to 2005. Prior to MaRS, Mr. Cook was Executive Vice President, Client Retention for AIM Funds Management Inc. as well as the President for Invesco Canada. From 1992 to 1999 Mr. Cook was Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for BPI financial. While at BPI he designed and launched many unique funds and developed the first segmented wholesale strategy in the Canadian mutual fund industry during which time assets under management grew from $55 million to over $6 billion.
Mr. Cook graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) in 1986 and has extensive Media and Sales training. He is a founder and Board Member for Biotechnology Council of Ontario, a founder for the National Angel Organization and past member of the Association Board of Directors for Upper Canada College and the Board of Directors for Camp Oochigeas.
Stephen Dembroski
Stephen Dembroski is Managing Director and senior transaction advisor at Stuart Lammert & Co., a North American based international mergers and acquisitions advisory firm. Prior to joining Stuart Lammert, Mr. Dembroski worked for over 15 years in various capacities within the mergers and acquisitions and investment banking groups within TD Securities Inc., the investment banking arm of Canada’s second largest bank, the Toronto Dominion Bank. At TD, he was responsible for providing corporate advisory, restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and debt/equity investment banking advice to the firm’s clients in the capacity of Group Head and Managing Director, Diversified Industries, and, prior to that, Group Head and Managing Director Global Forest Products Group and Managing Director of the M&A Group.
Mr. Dembroski has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario. He is a Board Member of various public and private companies and a Trustee of FP Newspapers Income Fund (Winnipeg Free Press), and a member of the Toronto Stock Exchange New Listings Advisory Committee. As well, he is currently Chair of the Canadian Institute of Contemporary Culture of the Royal Ontario Museum and a previous Board member of the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery and CANFAR, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research.
Investment Counsel Association of Canada
Thornmark is a member of the Investment Counsel Association of Canada (ICAC), which limits membership to firms who are independent from any affiliated financial services firm and from any firm which underwrites securities. Membership ensures that Thornmark has no affiliation or gainful association to prejudice the investment decision-making process for our clients. In addition, members are kept abreast of regulatory changes and actively share leading practices with other members.
